The Time Variance Authority offers Deadpool a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but instead he recruits a variant of Wolverine to save his universe from extinction. I really enjoyed the film and think both casual and hardcore fans will be satisfied. Not perfect, but still quite entertaining. Lately, it’s tempting to view movies that aren’t perfect as disappointments, and I hope that’s not the case here. The Deadpool and Wolverine team-up has been teased since 2009’s disaster X-Men Origins: The Wolverine Movie. The film’s goal is to strike a balance between being accessible to regular viewers and satisfying diehard fans of the characters. However, the film also faces the challenge of navigating the complex and branching web of continuity in the Marvel Universe. After nearly 50 (!) films (not counting TV series and Sony films), the Deadpool and Wolverine film had to carefully thread the needle to ensure it honored established traditions while offering a fresh take on and an exciting story. Despite the potential baggage of their growing continuity, Deadpool and Wolverine operate as separate entities.
