In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman?
Story
Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, is attempting to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from a Batcall in the final shot of the season finale, we never got a cameo from Robert Pattinson as The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought tooth and nail to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but he couldn’t.
The DC Studios logo was placed in a rainy Gotham alley
In his own series, however, the character is portrayed as a casual tobacco user who prefers cigars. The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo.
Appearing on The Graham Norton Show: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024)
The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman, and I think those who haven’t seen the second one will be a little lost. I watched Batman a while ago, though, and the show did an admirable job of quickly reminding me where the movie left off without getting bogged down in a didactic recap. It also captures the film’s aesthetic and somber tone nicely, though the series has far more moments of sly levity than the film itself.
So far, though, it’s off to a great start
As in Batman, Colin Farrell did an excellent job of portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical mob “street guy”: rough, profane, volatile, and quick to violence; but also smart, cunning, and able to read people. This character may have absolutely nothing to do with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right. I doubt the show will give the Penguin a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if The Penguin’s machinations will be enough to sustain an entire season.
